About the Blogger

I am a full-time working mother and wife.  I am a 20-year spinal cord injury survivor.  I have lived in four different countries, but currently reside in Andover, Massachusetts with my husband and 6-year-old son.

These days, I focus on raising my son and renovating a 1960s ranch house with my husband and partner of 18 years. This is the third home we’ve owned together and the second home we’ve renovated. The first home we renovated was a Cambridge condo that we then sold and used the funds to buy our home in Massachusetts.

Due to my use of a wheelchair, we like to say we have a “customizable life”. Basically we have to adapt everything in our lives so that it works for me. This has made us immensely creative in determining anything from having a vegetable garden to doing a major kitchen renovation to designing a walkway to get into the house.

The name Elevateher was derived as both an inside joke, since I always need an elevator, and a serious discussion on how through my surviving a catastrophic injury I can help other women elevate their lives through do-it-yourself posts for anything from kitchen design, repairing a vacuum, or surviving 3rd grade remote school while working full-time.

A little more... I graduated Harvard Kennedy School with a Masters in Public Administration in  2007. Since then, my professional life has been proudly working as a public servant. Currently, I’m with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. as the Director of the Department of Economic Research. Prior to that, I was working as an expert in economic development for both the City of Boston and the City of Cambridge. I am very mission driven with the goal of preserving vibrant and diverse ecosystems that promote innovation and community building with a real focus on small businesses and women- and minority-owned businesses.

Prior to attending Harvard, I worked at KPMG as an international banking consultant and founded a nonprofit to help people with acquired spinal cord injuries.
