Before and after using the Ponds dark spot corrector. It made a big difference!

I fully admit I love makeup products. The only reason, besides budget, I don’t buy more is that we don’t have the space. I have a pretty strict rule with myself of one thing into the house, one thing out. After many years of being a die-hard Sephora fan, COVID, which kept me away from big malls, led me to hitting the Target for some products. Here’s a collection of hits and a few misses over the last year.

A few of my favorite things

1. Olay Complete Moisturizer with SPF - I have tried many moisturizers but I really love this Oay moisturizer with SPF 30. It is non-greasy, blends right into the skin, and I love that I don’t need to apply sunscreen over it. Best yet, it’s only $1499, over wait for one of Target’s deals to get a gift card with beauty purchase. (cost 14.99)

2. POND'S Clarant B3 Dark Spot Correcting Cream - Because I didn’t wear the appropriate sunscreen when I was young, and just my genetics and age,, I have dark spots on my face. I have been using this cream for a few months and can visibility see the difference. However, this cream has vitamin C in it and makes my skin even more sensitive to the sun. I got a burn on my nose the first week I was using it. So be sure to use a facial sunscreen over it. The photo shows my before and after between September 2021 and 2022. My skin pigmentation is much improved, although it will never be perfect. Sigh. The price went up recently. Maybe a few more folks found out how great it is. (cost $9.49) products offered at my local Target, which we probably visit at least twice a week (probably more if I’m honest).

Before and after using L’Oreal mascara primer

3. L'Oreal Paris Voluminous Conditioning Mascara Primer - Recently had my eyelashes tinted and lifted after years of using faux lashes. Even with that my eyelashes are short and not very thick. This is a very good primer which I recommend under a good mascara. You can see in the photo what a difference it makes.  (cost $8.99)

4. Airspun Loose Face Powder 41 Translucent This is a nice, light loose powder for setting your foundation.  (cost $5.79)

5. L'Oreal Paris Infallible Full Wear, Full Coverage, Waterproof Concealer A word of warning is that they aren’t kidding when they say it’s full coverage. You only need a tiny amount and it goes really far. I find this a good concealer for the price. (Cost $11.99)

6. Dr Teal's Exfoliate & Renew Lavender Epsom Salt Body Scrub I absolutely love the smell of this scrub. I use it on my feet while in the shower and it works wonders on exfoliating and moisturizing. You can’t beat the price. (Cost $5.89)

7. L'Oreal Paris Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner - I find this eyeliner really long lasting. I have tried many brands from Sephora to Target and this one is the longest lasting with a great price. I really like the fact that when I sweat it doesn’t migrate up my lid. (cost $8.59)

8. Nexxus Keraphix Damage Healing Treatment Masque - I don’t use conditioner on a regular basis. That said, because my hair is colored, it gets dry. In the winter, when we have no humidity, my hair and scalp get really dry. I love this hair mask and usually manage to get three uses out of one package. A Lot of times Target will have a buy 1, get 1 X% off, making it a very good deal. (cost 4,.99)

Before and after using my favorite brow product - Anastasia.

9. Batiste Dry Shampoo Bare - (I don’t wash my hair every day because it dries it out too much.. Batiste is a great dry shampoo for in-between days. This is also great for my son’s in-between days where he needs a clean up, but not necessarily a full bath/shower. The bonus is he calls it the “old man” spray because of how it turns his hair white before we brush it out. He walks around with a pretend cane, hunched over, yelling “oh, my back”. It’s hilarious. For those with dark hair, Batiste has their Dry Shampoo Dark, which works just as well without the white “old man” look.

10. Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick I bought this for a few reasons. 1) I was sick of my lipstick transferring onto, basically everything, my mask, water bottle, coffee cup, etc. 2) I was tired of my husband and son’s complaints about lipstick transfer after smooches. Boo. 3) I wanted something that would last past my morning coffee. This is a great product. Once it’s on, it stays on. I also love the matte look. I would not recommend liner underneath as it somehow negates the benefits of the product. See my final makeup below with shade 05 Loyalist.  (cost $8.99)

Finished look with no filter or contouring.

Here’s my basic, quick makeup finished look with no contouring. I hate pictures of myself, especially with no filter, but here you go.

Products that didn’t make the grade

  1. Neutrogena Healthy Skin Makeup Primer Broad Spectrum - Primer is supposed to smooth lines and pores so your foundation doesn’t sit in those lines and pores. I just didn’t find that this primer actually did that.

  2. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Multi-Use Dark Circles Concealer Medium to Full Coverage - For me, the coverage was so light, it didn’t actually cover anything. It also didn’t make it through the day.

  3. Dove Beauty Refresh + Care Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo - Smells great, but too matifying and too drying, especially compared to the Batiste product line which I find worth the extra money.

  4. e.l.f. Instant Lift Eyebrow Pencil It’s fine, but that’s all I can say. For $3, you can’t go wrong, but it doesn’t last long and I don’t really like the formulation.  I much prefer the Anastasia Beverly Hills Ombre Effect Long Wearing Brow Powder Duo in dark brown.  I find it easier to work with and it lasts virtually forever (as long as you don’t drop it).
